The stage is set for another highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup. Since the tournament schedule was released, there have been growing calls in India for the BCCI to boycott the game following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. However, the Sports Ministry clarified that India is free to compete against Pakistan in multi-nation tournaments, dispelling doubts about the contest.
Fans eagerly await the Group A fixture on September 14 in Dubai, and India’s middle-order batter Rinku Singh has shared an interesting memory related to Pakistan, recounting an incident from last year in South Africa when he lost his cool at a Pakistani fan.
What Rinku Singh Said About The Pakistan Fan?
During India’s tour of South Africa last year, a fan approached Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav with a phone camera running, trying to provoke the players. The fan repeatedly asked why India refuses to tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. While Suryakumar Yadav remained calm and composed, Rinku could not hide his frustration. The video, which went viral, showed him visibly upset. Explaining the incident recently, Rinku revealed that the fan was deliberately trying to provoke a reaction. He came close with his camera on and started asking strange questions, just wanting content. Rinku told him to switch off his camera, and then he stopped. He further added that while SKY tried to calm the situation, he himself was left quite angry, feeling the fan’s approach was wrong.
“The guy came close to us. He had his camera open. He was asking some weird questions. He just wanted to get a reaction out of us. He wanted some content. I just told him, ‘Bhai, camera to band karle. (Close your camera).’ He then shut his camera,” Rinku Singh was quoted as saying to News24.
“Suryakumar Yadav was with me; he ensured that the fan was silent. As you saw in that video, I was really angry. It’s not done that you come close and your camera is open. It was wrong,” he added.
It is worth noting that India eventually did not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy due to security concerns and instead played their games in Dubai, going on to lift the trophy after beating New Zealand in the final.
Meanwhile, Rinku Singh has earned his place in India’s 15-member Asia Cup squad. If he features in the playing XI against Pakistan, it will mark his first-ever appearance against the arch-rivals. Ahead of the tournament, he showed exactly why he was picked, smashing a brilliant unbeaten 108 for Meerut Mavericks in the UPT20 in Lucknow, a knock laced with eight sixes. With form on his side and the Asia Cup beginning September 9, fans are eagerly waiting to see him in action, especially in the blockbuster clash against Pakistan on September 14.
