South African all-rounder Prenelan Subrayen was reported for a suspect bowling action after the Proteas’ 98-run victory in the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia.
An ICC statement confirmed that match officials had raised concerns with the off-spinner’s action in their report. Subrayen will now undergo an independent assessment at an ICC-accredited facility to determine its legality.
The 31-year-old played a key role in South Africa’s win on his ODI debut on Tuesday, sending down his full quota of 10 overs for 46 runs and dismissing Travis Head. He combined effectively with Keshav Maharaj to strangle Australia’s chase of 297, triggering a collapse.
Subrayen only recently broke into international cricket, having taken four wickets on his red-ball debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo before making his white-ball debut against Australia.
Should he miss the remaining ODIs, fast-bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch and left-arm spinner Senuran Muthuswamy are the frontrunners to replace him.
