India batter Cheteshwar Pujara on Sunday announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket.
“Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field – it’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” Pujara wrote in a post on social media.
Known for his ability to grind down bowling attacks with his grit and solid defensive technique, Pujara served as India’s No. 3 for more than a decade. He featured in 103 Tests and five One-Day Internationals in an international career spanning from 2010 to 2023. His last appearance for India was the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia at The Oval.
The 37-year-old scored 7,195 runs in Tests, including 19 hundreds and 35 fifties, and has a whopping haul of more than 21,000 First-Class runs.
Pujara was a part of Saurashtra’s victorious Ranji Trophy campaigns in 2019-20 and 2022-23 and played 90 First-Class matches for his domestic side.
