Muhammad Waseem will captain the UAE in the upcoming triangular T20I series against Afghanistan and Pakistan, scheduled to take place in Sharjah from August 29 to September 7.

This series will serve as crucial preparation for the Men’s T20 Asia Cup, which starts on September 9, also in the UAE.

Four new players have been included in the squad: Harshit Kaushik, Junaid Siddique, Muhammad Farooq, and Muhammad Jawadullah. Meanwhile, Akif Raja, Matiullah Khan, and Zuhaib Zubair have missed out.

Kaushik, a 28-year-old left-handed middle-order batter who also bowls part-time left-arm spin, is yet to make his international debut. Siddique, Farooq, and Jawadullah, however, have already represented their national team. Siddique, a 32-year-old medium pacer, has been among UAE’s leading bowlers over the years, with 59 ODIs and 71 T20Is under his belt, accumulating an impressive 76 and 96 wickets respectively. He has also played in leagues such as the International League T20 (ILT20) and Global T20 Canada. Jawadullah, a 26-year-old left-arm quick, has been a regular in UAE’s bowling attack with 11 wickets in 12 ODIs and 54 wickets in 33 T20Is. Farooq, a 32-year-old leg-spinning all-rounder, has taken nine wickets in eight T20Is and played two ODIs.

The core of the squad remains largely unchanged, featuring experienced players like Alishan Sharafu, Aryansh Sharma, and Rahul Chopra. Muhammad Zohaib, UAE’s top performer with the bat in the Pearl of Africa Cup, will once again be central to their plans, alongside Saghir Khan.

UAE’s squad for the Asia Cup will be announced soon.
