25-year-old fast bowler Umran Malik, who last played a competitive match on March 27, 2024, for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 against Mumbai, was back in action on Tuesday (August 26) for his state team Jammu & Kashmir. In J&K’s third match of the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, the right-arm fast bowler, who made headlines for his pace in the 2022 edition of the world’s richest franchise cricket league, dismissed two batters in back-to-back balls.
On the last ball of his first over of the match, Umran breached Odisha opener Om Munde’s defence and shattered his stumps. Munde could only manage to score 8 runs from 11 balls in the first innings, and then on the first ball of his next over, Umran clean bowled Odisha captain Subhranshu Senapati for a golden duck.
The clip of Umran celebrating in an aggressive manner was shared by fans on X, and it is now going viral on the internet.
Umran, who has picked up 13 wickets in 10 ODIs and 11 wickets in eight T20Is for India, missed the domestic season last year due to a hip injury. He was signed for his base price of Rs 75 lakh by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025 mega auction, but he got ruled out of the tournament before it even started due to injury.
He, however, joined the Kolkata-based franchise in the last week of April to continue his rehabilitation.
Umran bowled a total of 10 overs for Jammu & Kashmir in the first innings of the ongoing match and finished with figures of 2 for 35 runs.
