Sanju Samson shines in Kerala Cricket League for Kochi Blue Tigers with 285 runs, 21 sixes, and a 71.25 average.

Sanju Samson is currently the second-highest run-getter in Kerala Cricket League Season 2
Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has set the ongoing Kerala Cricket League ablaze with his ferocious stroke play. Representing Kochi Blue Tigers, the wicketkeeper-batter has smashed 285 runs as an opener. Moreover, he has smashed the most number of sixes in the league so far – 21 maximums in 5 matches. He also possesses the best batting average – 71.25 and has been striking at 182.69.
In the last fixture, against Trivandrum Royals, Sanju top-scored for his team with a 37-ball 62, with the help of 5 sixes and 4 fours. Earlier in the tournament, he produced an 89-run knock from 46 balls against Thrissur Titans, laced with nine maximums. His standout innings came against Kollam Sailors, where he blazed his way to 121 runs, sending the ball into the stands seven times.
Sanju has been in the news lately for multiple reasons. With the inclusion of Shubman Gill in the Asia Cup squad, his position as an opener might be at risk. Sanju, at the top of the order, was phenomenal last year. He became the first player to score three centuries in T20Is in a calendar year. But with the arrival of Gill, he might get shifted to the middle-order, where he boasts an unimpressive record.
Even the experts believe that Sanju might miss his spot to Gill in the upcoming continental tourney. Veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane feels that the Indian vice-captain will open with his Punjab teammate Abhishek Sharma.
“Shubman is back in the team, I’m sure he is most likely to open with Abhishek Sharma,” Rahane said in his latest YouTube video.
“Personally, I would like to see Sanju Samson in the team because he has done really well. He is a very confident guy, a very good team man, and that is very important,” he added.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra suggested Samson may still miss out despite his KCL form.
“With Shubman Gill’s return, Sanju Samson’s fate has more or less been sealed. He will not feature in the playing XI now. You will not drop Tilak Varma or Hardik Pandya, which means Samson sits out and Jitesh Sharma will likely get the nod again,” Chopra remarked.
