Auqib Nabi picked up a hat-trick in the Duleep Trophy on Friday. The 28-year-old pacer from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir picked up three back-to-back-to-back wickets in the North Zone’s quarter-final against East Zone, being played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru.

In the 53rd over, Auqib Nabi dismantled East Zone’s batting line-up with three wickets on the last three balls. He dimissed Suraj Jaiswal for 10, caught by wicket-keeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan, then trapped Manishi leg-before for a duck and clean-bowled Mukhtar Hussain without scoring.

Earlier in the innings, Nabi had taken out a well-set Virat Singh for 69 and eventually concluded East Zone’s first innings by dismissing veteran pacer Mohammed Shami for just 1 for a five-wicket haul.

He is the third bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the Duleep Trophy after Kapil Dev and Sairaj Bahutule.

Kapil Dev achieved this milestone while playing for North Zone against West Zone at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi during the 1978/79 season. Similarly, Sairaj Bahutule matched this feat for West Zone against East Zone at the Nehru Stadium in Pune in the 2000/01 season.

What Is Auqib Nabi’s Record?

In 29 First-Class matches, Auqib Nabi has delivered 3,999 balls, conceded 1,991 runs, and secured 90 wickets at an excellent average of 22.12. His best figures in an innings are 6/53, while his match-best of 10/74 demonstrates his ability to dominate during extended spells. With a strike rate of 44.4 and an economy rate of just 2.98, Nabi has achieved eight five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket match hauls, underscoring his prowess in red-ball cricket.

In List A cricket, he has played 29 games, taking 42 wickets from 1,434 balls at an average of 28.88, with best figures of 4/39. His economy rate of 5.07 and strike rate of 34.1 reflect his effectiveness in limited-overs formats as well.
