Former Indian batter Suresh Raina, who was known as Mr IPL, included two Indians in his list of top-3 T20 batters of present times. The two Indian batters Raina mentioned in his list played a big role in India’s super run in the shortest format of the game since the retirements of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja last year.
In his list, Raina also featured former South African wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen’s name along with world No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma and India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav. Klaasen, who was retained for Rs 23 crore by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction last year, is no longer active in international cricket. He announced his retirement from all three formats earlier this year.
Surya has played Tests and ODIs for India as well, but at present times, he is only part of the T20I setup, and Abhishek, on the other hand, has only represented the Indian team in the shortest format of the game.
“Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav,” Raina said on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.
“Abhishek Sharma is… he scored a century against England at Wankhede Stadium (135 from 54 balls on February 2, 2025). Suryakumar Yadav ke paas bahut sarey shots hai (Suryakumar Yadav has a lot of shots). And the six-hitting ability that Klaasen has is very rare. They are top three in the world right now,” Raina added.
During the show, Raina was also asked to name the most underrated batter of current times and, in reply, mentioned Ishan Kishan’s name.
Ishan has played two Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is for India so far, but his last appearance for the Men in Blue was against Australia in Guwahati on November 28, 2023.
“Ishan Kishan. He is a very, very strong player. He has done really well. Vo jab aur acha karega… uske paas bade tagde shots hai.”
When asked if Prithvi Shaw can make a comeback after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Raina said, “Definitely. Hona bhi chahiye because I think he achieved a lot in a very short time and now is now realising it (what went wrong). He is working on his fitness. He is a hard-working boy, and I wish him really, really well. I hope he does well for the team. He is a very talented player.”
