Rahul Dravid quits as RR’s head coach

Rahul Dravid has parted ways with Rajasthan Royals. The Jaipur-based franchise took to X on Saturday (August 30) to confirm the news of Dravid stepping down from his role just after one season.

Dravid, who played 46 matches in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals, joined the franchise as head coach last year after his tenure with the Indian team as head coach came to an end. But in the 2025 edition of the world’s richest franchise cricket league, Dravid failed to deliver.

Under his guidance, RR could only manage to win four out of 14 matches, and they finished ninth in the league table.

“Your presence in Pink inspired both the young and the seasoned. Forever a Royal. Forever grateful,” Rajasthan Royals captioned the farewell post for Dravid.

“Rajasthan Royals today announced that head coach Rahul Dravid will conclude his tenure with the franchise ahead of IPL 2026. Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey for many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, instilled strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise,” the franchise stated in a post on social media.

“As part of the franchise structural review, Rahul had been offered a broader position at the franchise, but has chosen not to take this. The Rajasthan Royals, its players, and millions of fans worldwide extend heartfelt thanks to Rahul for his remarkable service to the franchise,” the statement added.

Dravid is the second head coach who has parted ways with an IPL franchise ahead of the IPL 2026 mega auction. Last month Kolkata Knight Riders also parted ways with Chandrakant Pandit.

Pandit, who joined KKR as head coach ahead of IPL 2023, won the IPL title as head coach in 2024. He is only the second Indian after Ashish Nehra to win an IPL title as the head coach.
