Senior Kerala batter Salman Nizar on Saturday, August 30, set the stage on fire at the Kerala Cricket League, hitting 11 sixes in 13 deliveries, playing a blistering innings, leaving the opposition hapless and sending a message to IPL team owners four to five months ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction.
Nizar, all set to join the South Zone team for the Duleep Trophy semifinal, hammered an unbeaten 86 off just 26 deliveries, including 12 towering sixes, to power the Calicut Globstars to a 13-run victory over the Trivandrum Royals.
Globstars posted 186/6 before dismissing the Royals for 173 in the final over. Watch the video here:
Batting first, Globstars were reeling at 115/6 after 18 overs with Salman on 17 off 13 deliveries, having smacked just a single six off Ajith Vasudevan till that point.
The 19th over from Basil Thampi shifted the momentum of the Globstars’ innings. Thampi, a member of India’s 2018 Nidahas Trophy-winning team, was taken apart for five successive sixes after missing his lengths.
Many of Salman’s sixes came from creating room and lofting over the cover-point region, while the rest were launched with power over cow corner and long-on.
Nizar took Thampi apart in the 19th over, smashing 31 runs that ruined the latter’s figures, leaving him with 65 runs conceded from his four overs after giving away just 25 in his first three.
But it was medium-pacer Abhijeet Praveen who faced the worst of Nizar’s carnage, conceding a staggering 40 runs in the final over.
Trivandrum captain Krishna Prasad’s call to give him the ball instead of Nikhil M, who still had an over left, backfired.
Nizar launched Praveen’s first delivery for six, before two wides and a no-ball added three more runs. With 10 already on the board from just one legal ball, he then hammered the next five deliveries for five successive sixes.
In 22 T20s, Nizar has scored 450 runs at an average of 45 at a strike rate of 146.57.
