Former India captain Virat Kohli is one of the greatest cricketers of all time. The 36-year-old right-handed batter from Delhi has played over 500 international matches for India across formats and is known as one of the most competitive cricketers. He shared the dressing room with Suresh Raina for Team India in all three formats of the game, but during his recent appearance on a YouTube channel, when Raina was asked to name the most competitive player, he snubbed Kohli and mentioned the name of a former Australian all-rounder, who captained Rajasthan Royals in the cash-rich Indian Premier League and also played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings.
According to Raina, former Aussie all-rounder Shane Watson is the most competitive cricketer.
“Shane Watson. When he used to play for Australia, then he came to our team. Very, very nice human being, but he was very competitive,” Raina said on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.
Watson played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs and 58 T20Is for the Australian team from 2002 to 2016 and scored close to 11,000 runs in addition to dismissing 291 batters across formats.
In the IPL, he played 145 matches for three teams and scored 3874 runs and dismissed 92 batters.
In the IPL 2018 final, he scored an unbeaten century (117 from 57 balls) to help the MS Dhoni-led side become champions for the third time, and in the 2019 IPL final as well, he scored a half-century (80 from 59 balls).
During the same show, Raina was also asked to pick his all-time CSK XI, and he included Murali Vijay, Matthew Hayden and Michael Hussey along with Subramaniam Badrinath, Doug Bollinger, Albie Morkel, Shadab Jakati, Ravichandran Ashwin, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Lakshmipathy Balaji and Mohit Sharma. He featured Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan as 12th man, but surprisingly there was no place for Watson, Faf du Plessis, Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad and DJ Bravo in that list.
Bravo is CSK’s second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL, and he twice won the Purple Cap as a CSK player in the world’s richest franchise cricket league. On the other hand, Faf and Gaikwad have scored more than 2500 runs for CSK in the cash-rich league.
