Rinku Singh is part of India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, and on Saturday (August 30) he made a case for selection in the playing XI by playing a knock of an unbeaten 78 runs from just 48 balls for Meerut Mavericks. In the 27th league match of the Uttar Pradesh Premier League, Rinku came out to bat at No. 5 for the Meerut-based team against Kashi Rudras at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow and smacked six fours and as many sixes during his stay at the crease. His super show with the bat helped Mavericks chase down the target of 136 runs in 15.4 overs.
Rinku has impressed with his batting performances in the Uttar Pradesh Premier League. The left-handed batter had scored 57 runs from 27 balls against Lucknow Falcons on August 27 and an unbeaten 108 from 48 balls against Kashi Rudras on August 21.
In the Asia Cup 2025, Rinku will face tough competition from Shivam Dube and Jitesh Sharma for the role of No. 7 batter in India’s playing XI. If the team management decides to leave Sanju Samson out and pair Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma at the top, then Jitesh will play as a wicketkeeper-batter in the lower-middle order, and Rinku won’t get considered. Also, if team management prefers to go with an extra seam bowling option in Dube, then also Rinku’s chances will get reduced.
The best chance for Rinku to feature in the playing XI is only when Samson opens the innings with one out of Gill or Abhishek because in that case the cricketer from Aligarh could be considered a specialist finisher.
Rinku, who made his T20I debut for India in August 2023 against Ireland under Jasprit Bumrah’s leadership, has played a total of 33 T20Is so far and, with the help of three half-centuries, has amassed a total of 546 runs.
In the Uttar Pradesh Premier League 2025, he has scored 295 runs in seven innings of nine matches.
