After winning the T20I series with a scoreline of 2-1 and suffering a heartbreaking 1-2 defeat in the three-match ODI series against Australia in August, the South African men’s cricket team has travelled to England now, where they will take on the English team in a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series.
The ODI series opener is scheduled to take place at Headingley on Tuesday, September 2, and the next two 50-over matches will be played at Lord’s and in Southampton on Thursday (September 4) and Sunday (September 7), respectively.
Whereas the first T20I will be played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on September 10, and the next two fixtures will be played at Old Trafford (September 12) and Trent Bridge (September 14).
Temba Bavuma has been retained as the captain of the Proteas for the ODI series, and Aiden Markram will captain the side in T20Is. On the other hand, the hosts will play both series under the leadership of Harry Brook.
Star fast bowler Kagiso Rabada missed the ODI leg of the Australia tour due to injury, but he has been included in the ODI squad, and it remains to be seen if he is fit for the 50-over matches. Left-arm pacer Kwena Maphaka, who was due to return home to play in an A series against New Zealand, has been retained in the ODI squad as his cover.
Spinner Keshav Maharaj is back in South Africa’s T20I team for the away series along with pacers Marco Jansen and Lizaad Williams, middle-order batter David Miller and all-rounder Donovan Ferreira. Rassie van der Dussen, George Linde, Nqaba Peter and Prenelan Subrayen are, however, dropped from the squad.
