Delhi cricketer Yash Dhull has marked a remarkable return to the game after undergoing heart surgery last year. The young batsman signalled his comeback with a cryptic Instagram post that read, “Still here,” reflecting both relief and resilience.

In 2024, doctors discovered a 17 mm hole in Yash Dhull’s heart, requiring surgery. Yet, the young cricketer staged a courageous return to the sport within months.

In the recent Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru, Dhull played a remarkable 133-run innings for North Zone against East Zone, helping his team reach the semi-finals.

Reflecting on his journey, Dhull said, “The tough time taught me a lot about myself, about my game, about my life. How to move forward, how to improve. A lot has happened. Now I just enjoy my game, spend time on it and it gives me a lot of happiness.”

The 22-year-old player said that he has come to understand that ups and downs are part of both his career and life.

“I have to handle such things. Ups and downs will keep coming. I have to deal with them and move forward. But right now I just want to live in the present. I don’t want to think about the past or the future. I just want to take advantage of the opportunities I have and enjoy them,” he stated.

During his challenging phase, Dhull found solace in playing snooker, which helped him focus better on life and sports.

“At that time I used to play snooker a lot and spent a lot of time in it. That game taught me a lot. My mind was often wandering, I was not able to concentrate much. That game taught me to concentrate more,” he explained.

Dhull believes that scoring a century in the opening tournament of the season will be beneficial for his future.

“This is a good platform for us just before the start of the domestic season. All the top professional players are playing here. This is a good preparation for the coming season,” he said.

Additionally, Dhull demonstrated his white-ball skills in the Delhi Premier League (DPL), scoring 435 runs in eight matches at an average of 87 and a strike rate of 167.

He highlighted the importance of DPL as preparation for domestic white-ball tournaments like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
