Prasidh Krishna shares details of his heated exchange with Joe Root during the Oval Test, highlighting the intensity of the India-England series.
Soon after Duckett’s wicket, Prasidh Krishna provoked an angry reaction out of Joe Root by telling him he was “looking in great shape,” which ended in an on-field spat between the two.

Star India pacer Prasidh Krishna has said that he just complimented ace England batter Joe Root on his good shape during his innings at the Oval, but the latter reacted for some reason and eventually it turned into an exchange of abuses, in a rare moment of seeing Root losing his cool.
The England series was well contested, with all five Tests going down to the wire. Neither team gave an inch, making for a gripping spectacle throughout.
While questions may be raised about the overall quality of play, the intensity and competitiveness were undeniable. In the end, a 2-2 draw felt like a fitting conclusion to a hard-fought series.
On the second day of the Oval Test, Krishna welcomed Root in style as he uttered a word or two to welcome the latter, who is in the second spot in the list of most runs in Tests. Root did not hold back as he and Krishna engaged in verbal exchanges.
“I don’t know why Rooty reacted. I just said, ‘you’re looking in great shape’ and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that,” Krishna said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo.
But Krishna settled the equation with Root once the Oval Test was over.
“I did go and speak to most of them, including Root. I asked him what happened. He said, ‘I thought you abused me. ‘ I said, No and he replied, ‘I actually just wanted to get myself going as well, so I had to pump myself up,” Krishna said.
“That’s what I love about the sport, that’s the way I’ve always played it. To see everybody and especially a legend like him, putting it all out there and fighting for the team, even today, that’s something for everyone to learn from,” Krishna added.
The Oval Test went down to the wire and India emerged winners, winning the contest by six runs, registering their narrowest victory in Tests.
