Is Vaibhav Suryavanshi really 14 years old? His Rajasthan Royals teammate Nitish Rana is making the internet laugh with that question!

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been the toast of the nation since breaking through the Indian Premier League this year with the Rajasthan Royals. The 14-year-old became the youngest to make a debut in the league, before going on to break many age-related records, including the youngest to score a hundred — a scarcely-believable 101 off just 38 balls, which was the second-fastest in the tournament overall.
The question one some minds was whether he was actually 14 years old. India has had a history of age fraud in the sport — Suryavanshi’s family obviously refuted that, even showing his birth certificate — but more importantly, the prodigious talent has never been seen before, not even outside India. However, as you’d expect with a player featuring in the IPL, no participating player said it out loud.
That is, until Nitish Rana, who did so jokingly recently. In a rapid-fire interview on the sidelines of the 2025 Delhi Premier League, where he won the title with the West Delhi Lions, he gave his views on several of his Rajasthan Royals teammates, including Suryavanshi. When asked to tell the one thing the world didn’t know about the Bihar youngster, Rana said: “Wo 14 saal ka hi hai ki nahi (is he actually 14 years old?).
He quickly mentioned, ‘I am joking!’
He was also asked the same question about Sanju Samson, the RR captain last year, and Rana said, jokingly again: ‘That where would he play next year’. He was alluding to the recent rumors that Samson is looking to leave the Royals.
His answer was more detailed about Riyan Parag, a controversial figure now, because he captained in Samson’s absence this season, and there are reports that not everyone at the franchise was in favor of that.
Rana said: “Jaisa wo dikhta hai wo waise hai nahi. Real life mein wo bahot soft as in bahot achhey se baat karta hai. Uska attitude shayad TV pe galat tarike se dikhta hai. But wo waisa hai nahi.” (“He is not the way he appears. In real life, he is very soft-spoken and talks very nicely. Maybe his attitude is shown wrongly on TV. But he is not like that”)
Finally, speaking about himself, Rana said: “Mujhe aisa lagta hai ki cricket se bada kuch nahi hai. Game bahot bada hai kisi bhi match se, kisi bhi player se, kisi bhi cheez se. Cricket ko maine waha dekha hai jaha pe na maine apne aap ko dekha hai, na apne khaandaan ko and na kisi aur ko. Cricket mere liye top pe hai.” (“I feel that nothing is bigger than cricket. The game is much bigger than any match, any player, or anything else. I have seen cricket at a place where I haven’t even seen myself, my family, or anyone else. For me, cricket is at the very top.”)
