Legendary Afghanistan all-rounder and former captain Mohammad Nabi entered his name in the history books on Tuesday, September 2. The 40-year-old became only the second cricketer in the world after former Bangladesh captain and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in T20Is. In his 135th match for the Afghanistani team on Tuesday in Sharjah against Pakistan, Nabi completed 100 wickets in T20Is. He is the second player from Afghanistan to dismiss at least 100 batters in the 20-over format of the game.

He already has scored 2246 runs in 126 innings of 135 T20I matches played so far.

Shakib finished his T20I career with 2551 runs and 149 runs for Bangladesh in 129 matches played from November 2006 to June 2024.

In the fourth match of the ongoing T20I tri-series in the United Arab Emirates, Nabi bowled four overs on Tuesday and picked up two wickets for 20 runs.

He opened his wicket account by removing Fakhar Zaman on the fourth ball of the eighth over of the run chase. Fazalhaq Farooqi caught the left-handed batter after he added 25 runs from 18 balls to his team’s total. The wicket of Fakhar was Nabi’s 100th scalp in T20Is.

On the third ball of the 12th over of Pakistan’s innings, Nabi then dismissed Mohammad Haris. Haris was caught by Darwish Rasooli after scoring one run from four balls.

For Afghanistan, apart from Nabi, captain Rashid Khan, spinner Noor Ahmad and pacer Farooqi also picked up two wickets each, and their super show with the ball also helped Afghanistan successfully defend the total of 169 runs and secure a win by 18 runs.

Earlier in the first half of the match, opener Sediqullah Atal and No. 3 batter Ibrahim Zadran scored 64 and 65 runs, respectively, to help Afghanistan post a fighting total of 169/5 in 20 overs. Atal and Zadran added 113 runs for the second wicket after Saim Ayub removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the last ball of the second over of the match.

The win over Pakistan on Tuesday was Afghanistan’s second win in three matches played so far in the ongoing series.
