Ruturaj Gaikwad hits a superb century for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer struggle.

Star India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been out of India’s reckoning for more than a year now, smashed a brilliant hundred against the Central Zone on Day 1 of the Duleep Trophy semifinal, while representing the West Zone, even as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer endured poor outings.
Central Zone booked their place in the 2025 Duleep Trophy semifinal with a victory over North East Zone in the quarterfinal.
Facing a Shardul Thakur-led West Zone, the Central Zone were put in to field after losing the toss.
But West Zone soon found themselves at 10/2 in just the fourth over, before Aarya Desai and Gaikwad added 82 runs for the third wicket. After the former was dismissed by Harsh Dubey, the latter added 45 runs for the fourth wicket with Iyer.
After Iyer was bowled out by Khaleel Ahmed, Gaikwad added another 42 runs with Shams Mulani, before the latter was dismissed by Saransh Jain.
At the time of writing, Gaikwad and Tanush Kotian have built a 138-run partnership for the sixth wicket. While the former was batting on 180, Kotian is unbeaten on 47. Gaikwad reached his century in the second session.
This is the star batter’s eighth first-class century. He came into the game in fine form, having scored a hundred in the Buchi Babu Trophy as well.
Gaikwad now has a shot at beating his highest first-class score of 195 in this innings and getting to a maiden double century.
Meanwhile, opening for the West Zone, Jaiswal struck Khaleel’s first delivery for a boundary, but the bowler hit back two balls later to send him packing.
West Zone slipped to 10/2 in the fourth over as Deepak Chahar removed opener Harvik Desai, bringing Gaikwad to the crease. Iyer smacked four fours in his 28-ball stay but fell after scoring 25.
Khaleel has been the star bowler for Central till now, dismissing both big stars, Jaiswal and Iyer.
