Matthew Breetzke smashed his fifth consecutive fifty-plus score in his first five one-day international innings, breaking former Indian opener Navjot Singh Sidhu’s record, who had four.
The 26-year-old Breetzke achieved the feat during the second ODI between South Africa and England at The Lord’s.
The South African opener scored a stunning 150 against New Zealand on debut, followed by a smooth 83 against Pakistan. He then scored a steady 57 against Australia before delivering another striking 88 in the subsequent game against the same team.
Matthew Breetzke was trapped LBW by Jofra Archer for a 77-ball 85 on Thursday.
The English pacer bowled a yorker, dipping right under the batter’s blade, who was late in getting his bat down and was struck on the boots, right in front of the stumps. Breetzke was given out LBW, and he has reviewed it, but UltraEdge showed no bat was involved. Ball Tracking showed three red as Archer got his man.

Breetzke’s consistent form also put him on the same list as South African legends with five consecutive 50-plus scores in ODIs.
The record for the most such successive knocks is shared by Jonty Rhodes (2000–01), Quinton de Kock (2017 and again in 2019) and Heinrich Klaasen (2024–25), all with five in a row.
What Happened In ENG vs SA, 2nd ODI?
Earlier, England won a delayed toss and opted to bowl first against South Africa at Lord’s in the second one-day international of the three-match series on Thursday.
South Africa won the first ODI by seven wickets on Tuesday after dismissing England for 131, aiming to clinch the series.
England dropped fast bowler Sonny Baker, who had figures of 0-76 from seven overs and was out first ball with the bat on his international debut in the first ODI at Headingley. Saqib Mahmood replaced him.
The Proteas returned to the home of cricket 2 1/2 months after beating Australia there to win the World Test Championship, making two changes. Matt Breetzke entered the middle order after Tony de Zorzi was ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Wiaan Mulder missed out due to illness and was replaced by Senuran Muthusamy. Star pacer Kagiso Rabada remained absent because of an ankle injury.
