Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar is recalling the contribution of three teachers who played a vital role in shaping his life and career. On Teacher’s Day, Tendulkar took to social media noting how their influence contributed to him becoming one of the greatest batters in cricket history.
“The journey started with a coin, a kit bag, and three guiding hands, my father, Achrekar sir, and Ajit. Grateful, always,” Tendulkar captioned a series of images with his late father Ramesh Tendulkar, childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar and elder brother Ajit.
Tendulkar’s father Ramesh was a renowned Marathi poet who passed away in 1999. The iconic batter has in the post talked about how his father was never strict on him and wholeheartedly allowed him to chase his cricket dreams.
“My father was always caring but never strict. He let me choose what I wanted to do in life and supported me unconditionally in my quest to achieve my dreams. I think the way he raised all his children — always giving us love and freedom — is an excellent lesson in parenting. His thinking was ahead of his time, and that’s one of the million reasons why I love him so much. He is why I am,” Tendulkar, the only batter in cricket history to score 100 international, had said.
Tendulkar was playing in the 1999 World Cup in England when his father passed away in India. The legendary batter came home midway through the global tournament to attend his father’s last rites before rejoining his India team members and hitting an emotional century against Kenya.
On the other hand, his elder brother Ajit was the one who is often credited with taking Tendulkar to the late celebrated coach Achrekar whose lessons the former India captain still swears by even today.
