KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj, two of the key players from India’s impressive 2-2 draw in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, are currently in the midst of a long break but the duo will be back in action later this month. Both Rahul and Siraj weren’t considered for the Asia Cup 2025 which will be played in T20 format from next week in the UAE.

However, the India Test stars have been named in an A squad that will face Australia A in a two-match red-ball series from September 16 in Lucknow. The team will be led by Shreyas Iyer who isn’t also part of the Asia Cup squad.

Both Rahul and Siraj will not play in the first match of the series but will replace two players for the second game that starts from September 23.

“KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj will be added to the squad for the 2nd multi-day match and will replace two players in the squad after the 1st multi-day match,” read a release from BCCI on Saturday.

A 15-man squad has been named for the series which includes as many as seven international cricketers including Iyer, Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Reddy, Prasidh Krishna and Khaleel Ahmed.

Rahul racked up 532 runs from five Tests of the England tour to finish as the third highest run-getter of the series. Barring the fifth Test, the opening batter scored at least one half-century in each of the first four matches.

He scored 147 in the series opener in Leeds and followed that with 55 in the second innings at Edgbaston which India won to level the series. A 100 at Lord’s in a close defeat was followed by 46 and 90 in Manchester’s draw. He scored 21 runs in the fifth and final Test held at The Oval.

On the other hand, giving an example of his grit and perseverance, Siraj played in all five Tests of the tour and finished as the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps at an average of 32.43. He took two five-wicket hauls including a series-leveling 5/104 in the second innings of the Oval Test.
