Batting legend Virender Sehwag recalls the Asia Cup match from 2008 when he scored a century while on a fast.

Ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, batting legend Virender Sehwag has recalled his famous hundred against Pakistan from the 2008 edition of the tournament which set up their big six-wicket win in Karachi. In a difficult chase of 302 and after losing opener Gautam Gambhir (9) in the third over itself, Sehwag raced away to a memorable 95-ball 119 with the tourists chasing down the target with 47 balls and six wickets to spare.
Sehwag reveals that on that day – June 26, 2008 – he was on a fast and therefore, feasted on Pakistan bowlers to satiate his appetite at the National Stadium in Karachi.
“I was on a fast that day. On an empty stomach. Paapi pet ke liye run banane padte hain (I had to score runs to satisfy that hunger),” Sehwag said in a video shared by Sony Sports on X (formerly Twitter).
In their second meeting of the tournament, the fortunes were reversed with India suffering an eight-wicket defeat in what was another high-scoring affair with over 600 runs being scored during the match. Sehwag continued his red-hot form and missed out on a fifty by a solitary run.
The 46-year-old says losing to Pakistan would hurt his focus and temperament.
“Whenever you lose against Pakistan…I would lose my concentration. I would lose my temperament and everything,” Sehwag said.
