MI Cape Town wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton believes the in-form Dewald Brevis would be the ‘hottest property’ at the upcoming SA20 auction, closely followed by former Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain Aiden Markram. 549 players will go under the hammer on September 9, with 308 being from South Africa.

Brevis has been in red-hot form this year, starting with the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 tournament, which earned him a call-up to the Chennai Super Kings as a replacement player in IPL 2025. He scored 225 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 180, impressing and pushing his case for being retained on a full-time contract.

He has played five ODIs and eight T20Is overall in 2025, scoring 104 runs (strike-rate of 182.4) and 313 runs (strike-rate of 196.8, with a best of 125) in the two formats, respectively.

“Dewald Brevis, without a doubt, is going to attract major interest,” Rickelton said in an interview with SA20. “I also expect Aiden Markram to be right up there, but I think Brevis will be the headline contender.”

“I think it will be exciting to see the players in the auction, but I’m especially eager to find out how the rest of our team will be assembled. It’s a great opportunity for guys to earn and perhaps move to a new side, but from my perspective, I’m most looking forward to seeing the shape of our final squad,” Rickelton added.

Rickelton has been an excellent player for the league, already scoring 1012 runs in just three seasons, striking at 162.70, with eight half-centuries. This year, he’s excited to be paired alongside one of the best batters in the world in Nicholas Pooran.

“I’m especially looking forward to playing alongside Nicholas Pooran at MI Cape Town, he’s a formidable T20 player and it’ll be great to learn from him. I always enjoy playing against Joburg Super Kings at the Wanderers. Not only is it my home ground, but it’s always a fantastic contest, whether it’s a packed Wanderers or a packed Newlands,” Rickelton added.
