India thrashed hosts UAE by nine wickets to begin their Asia Cup title defence on a high, as they chased down the 58-run target posed by UAE in just 4.3 overs, registering their fastest-ever chase in a T20I.
Star India batter Abhishek Sharma made 30 off 16 deliveries while his fellow opener and best mate Shubman Gill and skipper Suryakumar Yadav remained not out on 20 and 7 respectively as India reached 60/1 in less than five overs in a lopsided game.
Earlier, India bowled the UAE out for just 57, with Kuldeep Yadav (4/7) and Shivam Dube (3/4) wreaking havoc with the ball.
Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy got one wicket each after the UAE were asked to bat first. Opener Alishan Sharafu top-scored with 22 runs for UAE, who were asked to bat first.
India’s fastest chase in the shortest format to date was a 5.3 over win against Australia in Ranchi in October 2017. In that encounter, the visitors posted 118/8 in 18.4 overs, with Kuldeep Yadav picking four wickets.
India had to chase down 49 in the powerplay in a rain-curtailed game and they did so with three balls remaining, with Shikhar Dhawan and then captain Virat Kohli taking India through.
