Families of Pahalgam terror attack victims feel deeply hurt by the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match, calling it disrespectful to martyrs and Operation Sindoor.
The families of the victims killed in the brutal Pahalgam terror attack are emotional and feel ‘very disturbed’ by seeing the India-Pakistan clash organised in the 2025 Asia Cup. They believe that this restoration of connection with the neighboring country is a disrespect to the martyrs and the Operation Sindoor.
26 innocents died in the attack when several gunmen, believed to be terrorists who crossed the border from Pakistan, picked and chose to kill those gathered in the popular tourist spot. India retaliated with precision strikes in several terrorist spots in Pakistan, which was labeled as Operation Sindoor.
Cross-border tensions escalated soon after that, and more civilians and army men were killed on both sides of the border. It was a definite low in the two countries’ relations, and calls were made from all around India to cut all ties, including sporting, with Pakistan. Though some momentum was built up, it all fizzled away when the BCCI agreed to participate in the Asia Cup before the central government gave its green light to.
“When we got to know that the India vs Pakistan match was being organised, we were very disturbed,” Sawan Parmar, who lost his father and brother in the attack, told ANI. “No sort of connection should remain with Pakistan… If you want to play the match, bring me back my 16-year-old brother who was shot with so many bullets… Operation Sindoor seems to be a waste now,” he said.
Sawan’s mother, Kiran Yatish Parmar, questioned the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“This match should not happen. I want to ask Prime Minister Modi, Operation Sindoor has not concluded so why is this India vs Pakistan match happening?… I want to tell everyone in the country to go and visit those families who have lost their loved ones in the Pahalgam terror attack and see how sad they are. Our wounds have not healed,” she said.
Sunday’s clash would likely not be the last of India-Pakistan in the Asia Cup. If both go through the group stage, they’ll meet again in the Super-Fours, where a top-two finish can get them a third clash, in the final.
