Hours before the 2025 Asia Cup match between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), there remains no certainty on whether the match will go on at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Pakistan is yet to leave the team hotel for the stadium.

The decision comes in the wake of the controversy surrounding match referee Andy Pycroft, who also officiated the match between India and Pakistan. The fixture saw both teams play the match without shaking hands.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) blamed Pycroft for the fiasco, saying that he asked Salman Ali Agha — the Pakistan skipper — not to shake hands with Suryakumar Yadav — the Indian counterpart — and also did not allow the exchange of team-sheets between the two captains, as was the norm.

Despite PCB’s complaint, Pycroft was confirmed as the referee for Pakistan’s must-win match against the UAE on September 17.
