Nabi hammered Sri Lanka’s spin-bowling all-rounder Wellalage for 32 runs in one over.

Mohammad Nabi came out to bat at No. 7 for Afghanistan on Thursday, September 18, against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi and scored 60 runs from just 22 balls in the Asia Cup 2025 match. During his stay at the crease in the Group B fixture, the right-handed batter hammered 3 fours and 6 sixes to help Rashid Khan’s men post a total of 169/8 in 20 overs.

In the final over of Afghanistan’s innings bowled by Dunith Wellalage, Nabi hammered five sixes in the first five balls. In addition to conceding five sixes in a row, Wellalage also bowled one no ball and conceded one single on the last ball of the over.

Nabi added a total of 32 runs to Afghanistan’s total in the 20th over bowled by Wellalage.

In the history of T20I cricket, the record of scoring the most runs in an over is in the name of Samoa batter Darius Visser. During the T20I match played between Samoa and Vanuatu in Apia on August 20, 2024, Visser scored a total of 39 runs in the over bowled by Nalin Nipiko. Visser hammered Nipiko for a total of six sixes, and the bowler also bowled three no balls.

India’s Yuvraj Singh and the duo of Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh, along with West Indies batters Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran, Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee and Bulgaria’s Manan Bashir, have also scored a total of 36 runs in one over of a T20I match.

While Yuvraj, Pollard, Airee and Bashir hammered six back-to-back sixes, Pooran and Rinku and Rohit also scored fours.
