Pakistan qualified for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 on Wednesday with a 41-run win over the United Arab Emirates, setting up another clash with arch-rival India.

The two teams will face each other on Sunday, September 21. India had won their earlier meeting in this Asia Cup by seven wickets.

That group-stage encounter sparked controversy after Indian players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts at the end of the match. In response, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha skipped the post-match presentation. Earlier, at the toss, India captain Suryakumar Yadav and Agha had also refrained from the customary handshake.

Following the incident, Pakistan lodged a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC), alleging that match referee Andy Pycroft had prevented the captains from shaking hands at the toss. Pakistan also demanded his removal from duty for the UAE fixture.

The team even considered boycotting the match after the ICC rejected its request. However, on Wednesday, Pakistan issued a statement saying Pycroft had apologised. He subsequently remained on duty for the UAE game.
