Australian wicket-keeper-batter Josh Inglis has been ruled out of his side’s three-match T20I series in New Zealand due to a calf injury.

Alex Carey has been called up to replace him, with the first match set to take place on October 1 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Inglis complained of a right calf issue after a running session in Perth earlier this week and was ruled out after scans. Cricket Australia is planning to place him on a specialised program, with the hope of making him fit for the home white-ball series against India, beginning with the first of three ODIs on October 19.

It’s not the first calf injury for Inglis, who also suffered a strain while fielding in last year’s Boxing Day Test against India.

Inglis is the latest addition to the list of first-choice players who will miss the series after Pat Cummins, Cameron Green and Nathan Ellis.
