Andy Pycroft will be appointed match referee for the Super 4s match between India and Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, news reports claimed.
Pakistan had requested the International Cricket Council to remove Pycroft from the tournament and even threatened to boycott its game against UAE during the group stage.
However, Pycroft continued in his role after a meeting with the Pakistani team management. Pakistan subsequently played its game after the match referee reportedly issued an apology to the team.
The Zimbabwean had been the centre of a controversy after the Indian players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts due to the political tensions between the two nations.
The Pakistan Cricket Board then accused Pycroft of preventing the captains from shaking hands at the toss and filed an official complaint with the ICC to demand his removal.
The ICC rejected PCB’s claims that Pycroft violated the ‘Spirit of the Game’, insisting that he was merely a messenger.
