A moment of silence was held before Sri Lanka’s Super 4s clash with Bangladesh in memory of Sri Lanka all-rounder Dunith Wellalage’s father, Suranga, who passed away on Thursday.
The Sri Lanka side also took to the field sporting black armbands in his memory.
Wellalage learned of his father’s passing after the completion of Sri Lanka’s six-wicket victory over Afghanistan, and departed for home on the earliest flight possible.
He has since returned to the squad, and will feature in Sri Lanka’s opening fixture of the Super 4s phase.

Wellalage has played 31 ODIs and five T20Is, with the match against Afghanistan — on September 18 — being his first appearance in the 2025 Asia Cup. He bowled four overs in that match, picking up the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran while conceding 49 runs.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, has made an impressive start to the Asia Cup 2025, going through the group stage of the competition undefeated. It is now slated to take part in the Super 4s stage along with India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
