PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi met the Salman Ali Agha-led Pakistan team in Dubai ahead of their Asia Cup 2025 clash with India, amid controversy over handshake and press events.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi marked his presence at the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai on Saturday, where the Salman Ali Agha-led side was training for their rematch with India in the Asia Cup 2025. Naqvi, who also heads the Asian Cricket Council, monitored Pakistan’s practice session but ignored the media present at the facility, dodging the question over the team cancelling their pre-match press conference.

After a week full of controversies and disappointments, Pakistan is gearing up for their first Super 4 clash against India on Sunday. Ahead of the big game, Salman Agha & Co. were cheered by Naqvi. He interacted with the squad and boosted morale ahead of the match against India.

Distancing themselves from the media outrage over their own drama, the Pakistan cricket team chose not to address the media before their big encounter against India. For the second consecutive time in the Asia Cup, they called off their pre-match press conference, further fueling speculation of growing tension within the camp.

India’s emphatic seven-wicket win over Pakistan last Sunday was overshadowed by a controversy that unfolded after the match. The Indian players refrained from the traditional handshake, a move skipper Suryakumar Yadav described as a symbolic gesture in support of families of the 26 victims of April’s Pahalgam terror attack.

The decision triggered outrage in the Pakistan camp, with the PCB blaming referee Andy Pycroft, who had advised against a handshake during the toss. Demanding his removal and even threatening to withdraw from the tournament, PCB’s appeals were twice dismissed by the ICC.
