India dropped Saif Hassan four times in the Super-Four clash in Dubai, their most in T20Is against one batter.

India all-rounder Shivam Dube dropped the easiest of chances in the deep to give Bangladesh opener Saif Hassan a big second chance in the crucial Super-Four clash in Dubai on Wednesday.

It wasn’t the only chance given to Hassan, either, because soon Sanju Samson fluffed a regular wicketkeeper’s catch, and then Abhishek Sharma dropped him at deep fine leg, with the latter two simply misjudging it. It all happened within 12 balls, bowled by Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.

Add to it Axar Patel missing a caught-and-bowled chance against Hassan in the 12th over, and India dropped him four times — the most by the Men in Blue against one batter in T20Is, ever. Although the Axar chance was difficult, the other three between the 16th and 17th overs laid bare their fielding issues, which have hurt them throughout the 2025 Asia Cup.

Hassan swept Chakaravarthy’s first ball of the 16th over to deep mid-wicket, where Dube and Pandya converged into the same spot. Dube looked in position to grab it, but perhaps distracted by Pandya’s run, failed to hold onto it, and the ball popped off his hands despite Pandya stopping his run.

Thankfully for Chakaravarthy, Hassan’s partner, Mohammad Saifuddin tried a big shot and didn’t time it, and this time Tilak Varma didn’t make a mistake at long off.

The Kolkata Knight Riders spinner created another opportunity against Hassan on the fourth ball. He looped it wide and extracted some extra bounce, which meant Hassan got a big top-edge that went high over the short mid-wicket region. Samson ran for it, called for it, but misjudged the exact trajectory and ended up putting in a dive to grab it, which was too short.

In the next over, Kuldeep started with two big wickets, getting Rishad Hossain slogging and Tanzim Hasan Sakib on consecutive deliveries. On the fifth ball, Hassan again swept towards deep fine leg, where Abhishek Sharma misjudged it and got late on the dive, letting the ball slip off his fingers.

Hassan eventually got out, on the second ball of the 18th over, thanks to an excellent take by Patel on the long on boundary, for 69 (51). Bangladesh lost the game by 41 runs.
