Jasprit Bumrah isn’t interested in resting from the two-match Test series with West Indies.
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly told the BCCI that he’s available to be picked for the next month’s two-match Test series with West Indies at home. Currently part of India’s Asia Cup squad in UAE, Bumrah’s workload remains a big talking point thanks to his history with injuries.
Earlier this year, after he injured his back midway through the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian team management has been cautious with their pace spearhead and played him only in three of the five Tests on England tour.
There were also speculations over whether the 31-year-old will be picked for the T20 Asia Cup given the fact that if India do make the final of the tournament on September 28, there will be just three days for the Test players to return home and switch to red-ball mode since the first Test against West Indies is scheduled to start from October 2 in Ahmedabad.
Bumrah Won’t Be Rested
India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate on Tuesday dismissed the possibility of Bumrah being rested against their Super Fours clash of the Asia Cup 2025 against Bangladesh.
“It is unlikely that Bumrah will be rested. He is set to play the West Indies Tests. We’ve got important matches coming up, and it’s good for him to keep playing and get more match time,” Doeschate told reporters.
So far, the right-arm pacer has played in three of India’s four matches of the ongoing tournament so far. Along with Varun Chakaravarthy, he was rested from their inconsequential Group A match against Oman after they had already qualified for the next round.
“Also bearing in mind we have a Test match starting on Thursday. So, it’s actually quite good preparation in terms of workload management. He’s probably going to bowl a few overs in all the games and bowl in the region of 25-26 overs with the training and the preparation going into the game, which is a fairly good number the week before a Test,” Doeschate said.
