Having retired from both Tests and T20Is, Virat Kohli is now only available for ODIs and is expected to return to competitive cricket during India’s Australia tour.
Batting superstar Virat Kohli’s ODI future remains uncertain as a report claims that chief of selector Ajit Agarkar recently contacted the former India captain to enquire about his plans ahead. Kohli had retired from Test cricket earlier this year but remains available for ODIs.
It’s not a certainty that Kohli will be part of India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Australia during which they are scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20Is between October 19 and November 8. Citing sources, Revsportz reports that the team management is pessimistic after lack of communication from Kohli’s end.
There were reports that the team management wanted both Kohli and Rohit Sharma to play for India A in a one-day series with Australia A set to be held later this month in Kanpur. However, neither of the two was named in the squad announced recently.
Like Kohli, Rohit too has retired from both Tests and T20Is and the duo hasn’t played any competitive cricket since IPL 2025. Their last appearance for India was the final of the Champions Trophy in March this year.
Kohli, Rohit Clear Fitness Test
Before departing for the ongoing Asia Cup in the UAE, the BCCI conducted fitness tests for its contracted players. Rohit flew to BCCI’s Center of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru for the test while Kohli was reportedly allowed to undergo the test from London where he now resides with his family.
Both are said to have cleared the fitness test.
Iyer Takes Break
Meanwhile, another senior India cricketer Shreyas Iyer is in the news for having reportedly taken a break from red-ball cricket. Iyer was set to lead an India A squad in the ongoing unofficial Test against Australia A in Lucknow before pulling out and returning home.
As per various reports, Iyer wrote a letter to Agarkar explaining how his body cannot endure the rigours of first-class cricket.
Iyer played in the first unofficial Test, scoring 8 and 13.
