India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced a fifteen-member squad on Thursday for the upcoming home Test series against West Indies, set to commence on October 2 in Ahmedabad. Selectors have chosen a relatively full-strength squad with Narayan Jagadeesan being picked as back-up wicket-keeper cum opener. In case you are wondering, who is Narayan Jagadeesan? Inspired early by his father C. J. Narayan, Jagadeesan made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2016-17 season, scoring a century. He soon established himself across formats and garnered attention with a record 277 (the highest individual score in the 50-over format) in List A cricket, followed by five consecutive centuries. Jagadeesan also played in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. His consistent domestic performance, including a 197-run knock in the Duleep Trophy, earned him a maiden India Test call-up in 2025 as Rishabh Pant’s replacement on India’s tour of England.
