Sri Lanka batting coach Thilina Kandamby urged batters to stay positive against Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Axar Patel.

Sri Lanka batting coach Thilina Kandamby emphasised the need for his batters to adopt a positive mindset to confront the spin threat from India in their inconsequential Asia Cup match on Friday.

With two losses in as many games in the Super 4s, Sri Lanka is already out of contention for the final, while India aims to fine-tune its combination ahead of the summit clash on Sunday.

With India’s victory over Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, having lost both its Super 4 matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan, has been eliminated from the competition and will now play only to fulfil the remaining fixtures.

Sri Lanka Vs India’s Spinners

The spin trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Axar Patel has caused significant difficulties for the batters throughout the tournament.

“We have discussed about it but whatever said and done our guys have been playing spin regularly. They know how to handle the spinners irrespective of the conditions. Having said that they ahve some good world class bowlers in their line up. If our guys in a positive mindset we can overcome that (challenge),” said Kandamby on the eve of the game.

When asked about their performance in the Super 4s after leading the group stage, the former Sri Lankan batter explained: “In the Pakistan game were outplayed in all three departments,” said Kandamby who also talked about the over reliance on openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis.

“They (openers) have been playing well for the last one and a half years. But on and off we have had bad days especially when we batted first. Some of the guys have also been playing well, Kamindu and Dasun also got half centuries.”

Sri Lanka had started their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with consecutive victories. The Island nation comfortably chased down Bangladesh’s 139/5, reaching 140/4 in 14.4 overs in Abu Dhabi. Sri Lanka then narrowly defeated Hong Kong by four wickets while chasing 150 in Dubai.
