Abhishek now holds the record for scoring the most runs in one edition of the Asia Cup T20Is. He has 285* runs to his name in six matches of the Asia Cup 2025.
World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma entered his name in the history books on Friday, September 26, by breaking the record of scoring the most runs in one edition of the Asia Cup T20Is. The left-handed batter from Punjab needed 34 runs in the ongoing match against Sri Lanka at Dubai International Cricket Stadium to go past Mohammad Rizwan’s tally, and he achieved the objective during the 5th over of India’s innings after Sri Lanka’s captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and opted to field first.
Rizwan played six matches for the Babar Azam-led side in the 2022 Asia Cup and amassed a total of 281 runs. On the other hand, Abhishek has 282 runs to his name now in six matches.
He broke Rizwan’s record by hitting a four on the fifth ball of Dushmantha Chameera’s over.
If Abhishek manages to score at least 52 runs in the ongoing match, then he will become the first batter to score 300 runs in one edition of the Asia Cup T20Is.
