Jasprit Bumrah took exception to Mohammed Kaif’s observation on him bowing three overs in Powerplay to avoid injury.
Mohammed Kaif has responded after Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the former India cricketer’s observation as “inaccurate” on social media. Kaif had suggested that Bumrah has been bowling majority of his overs inside the Powerplay during the ongoing Asia Cup to avoid getting injured.
Citing how former India T20I captain Rohit Sharma would utilise Bumrah in T20Is by bowling him in all three phases of an innings including the powerplay, middle overs and death overs, Kaif posted, “Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in Asia cup, he bowled a three-overs spell at the start. To avoid injury, Bumrah these days, prefers to bowl while his body is warmed up.”
He said that keeping only one over of Bumrah for the slog overs hands India’s opponent a huge advantage and if the strategy continues, it could backfire at the T20 World Cup next year. “1 over of Bumrah in the remaining 14 overs is a huge relief for batters, against stronger teams at World Cup, this could hurt india,” he added.
Bumrah seemed to have taken exception to the post and responded, “Inaccurate before inaccurate again” followed by a thumbs up emoji.
Kaif’s Reply To Bumrah
A day after Bumrah’s response created a stir on social media, Kaif wrote that it was an observation from a “well-wisher” while calling the pace spearhead as India’s biggest match-winner.
“Please take this as a cricketing observation from a well-wisher and an admirer,” Kaif wrote.
And Kaif gently reminded the 31-year-old that he too knows what it takes to deliver at the international stage. “You are Indian cricket’s biggest match-winner and I know what it takes to give it all when on field wearing India colours,” he added.

Kaif played 13 Tests and 125 ODIs for India between 2000 and 2006, scoring over 3000 runs at international level. Primarily a middle-order batter and a sharp fielder, Kaif is remembered for his famous knock in the final of the NatWest series when he scored an unbeaten 87 to help India chase down 326.
