The 2025 edition of the Women’s World Cup is set to kick off on September 30 with co-hosts India and Sri Lanka facing off in Guwahati. This is the fourth time that India is hosting the quadrennial showpiece while the honour has been bestowed on the island nation of Sri Lanka for the first time.

Over 10 editions between 1978 and 2022, India has played 70 matches in the World Cup.

India’s win percentage in the World Cup stands at 52.85%, having won 37 matches and lost 31 times. One match ended in a tie while another didn’t have a result.

Best finish

India has come close to tasting silverware twice in the World Cup, having finished as runner-up twice. It reached the final in 2005 and 2017, falling to defeats against Australia and England respectively.

Former India pace ace Jhulan Goswami is the team’s highest wicket-taker in the World Cup, having taken 43 scalps in 34 innings at an average of 21.74.

Biggest win

India’s biggest win in the World Cup, in terms of runs, came in the 2017 edition when it beat New Zealand by 186 runs.

The side’s biggest win in terms of wickets came in the 2009 edition when it beat Pakistan by 10 wickets.

Biggest loss

India’s biggest loss in terms of runs was in the 1982 edition when it lost by 153 runs. In terms of wickets, India’s biggest loss was a 10-wicket defeat to England in the same edition.
