Shoaib Akhtar’s slip calling Abhishek Bachchan instead of Abhishek Sharma went viral, prompting a witty reply from Bachchan on social media
As Pakistan gear up to face India in the Asia Cup final on Sunday, Shoaib Akhtar offered a valuable piece of advice to Salman Agha & Co. But what turned out to be a hilarious incident, Akhtar’s advice drew response from Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan.
The former fast bowler wanted to convey that the Pakistanis need to get rid of Abhishek Sharma early to take control of the game in the final. However, Akhtar had a slip of tongue as he ended up saying ‘Abhishek Bachchan’.
“If Pakistan get Abhishek Bachchan out early on, hypothetically speaking, then what’s going to happen with the middle order? Their middle-order hasn’t performed,” Akhtar said.
The video went viral on social media, drawing a humble response from Abhishek Bachchan. The actor took to his X account and wrote, “Sir, with all due respect… don’t think they’ll even manage that! And I’m not even good at playing cricket.”
Abhishek Sharma Sizzling in Asia Cup 2025
Abhishek Sharma has been in sensational form, amassing 248 runs from five innings at a blistering strike rate of 206.67 while opening for India. He has registered two half-centuries, with a top score of 75 in the 41-run win over Bangladesh that confirmed India’s spot in the final.
India to Face Pakistan in Asia Cup Final
The Suryakumar Yadav-led side have looked unstoppable this tournament, winning all five of their matches so far, including two against Pakistan.
Their last meeting proved to be one-sided, with India cruising to a six-wicket win. However, tempers flared on the field, with Haris Rauf clashing with openers Abhishek and Shubman Gill. Rauf’s celebrations after dismissing Sanju Samson also drew attention, as he gestured 0-6 towards jeering fans — a nod to Pakistan’s unfounded claim of shooting down six Indian jets.
Earlier, Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan courted controversy with a gunfire-style celebration. India have since lodged complaints with the ICC against both players for their provocative gestures.
