Irfan Pathan lauds Pakistan’s fielding after their victory over Bangladesh, setting up a historic India vs Pakistan Asia Cup final.
Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan’s X post lauding Pakistan’s fielding has gone viral on social media, days after he was embroiled in an online war with Shahid Afridi over certain comments made by the duo in their respective interviews, amidst a high-tension situation between the two countries.
Pathan had taken stock of Afridi’s latest comments, saying that some people from the neighbouring nation are obsessed with his name.
The entire matter began last month, when, during an interview with Lallantop, Pathan recalled a fight with Afridi on a flight. But Pakistan’s show on the field on Thursday in a virtual semifinal against Bangladesh earned the Indian cricketer’s praise, in a rare and unexpected display.
“Bangladesh’s batting lacked intent-too many dots, too many rash shots. In contrast, Pak team showed discipline in the field, capped off with some brilliant catching,” Pathan tweeted on Thursday night.

“For the first time in 41 years of Asia Cup history, we’ll see an India vs Pakistan final. India have shown their dominance, the gap with others is clear. Pak team, meanwhile, have shown improvement specially in the bowling department,” Pathan added.

In what has been customary of the Asia Cup, numerous catches were dropped on the day, but Bangladesh dropped more and hence lost the game.
Pakistan’s bowling unit came to the party when it mattered the most as they defended a paltry 135 with all its might against Bangladesh in Dubai on Thursday, winning the Super 4s game by 11 runs to set up a maiden Asia Cup title clash with arch-rivals India.
