Shoaib Akhtar heaped praises on Mohammad Nawaz after his display with the ball as well as the bat in the must-win match against Bangladesh on Thursday, saying that the Pakistan player shouldn’t be considered a lesser player than India’s Axar Patel. Akhtar explained that what sets Nawaz and Axar apart is the latter’s confidence, urging the Pakistan player to focus on his mindset.
Nawaz played a handy role with the bat when Pakistan were in deep trouble against Bangladesh, scoring 25 runs helping his side to a score of 135 runs. He would later also strike with the ball when he snapped up Mahedi Hasan for just 11.
“Batting main kitna calm and composed laga woh. And in such a pressure situation, he made sure he gets Pakistan out of the situation. Dekhiye, ek wicket gir jaati toh problem ho sakta thha but unhone kaha neeche tak jaana hi nahi maine. He needs to get out of this whole mindset that I am not a good enough left-armer. Axar isse behtar spinner nahi hain, ye (Nawaz) accha spinner hain. Axar ke paas ek confidence hain, ek management hain, he has a set place in the team. (Axar is not a better spinner than him, he’s (Nawaz) a good spinner. Axar has confidence, management and a set place in the team),” Akhtar said on Tapmad.

After Pakistan qualified for the final on Thursday night after defeating Bangladesh, Akhtar showered praise on the team, while claiming they were good enough to defeat the Indian side, which is so far undefeated.
But Pakistan’s win on Thursday in the Super 4 clash over Bangladesh came after a fightback. The team had slumped to 49/5 at one stage batting first. Akhtar demanded that the Pakistan team show the same fight against India.
India and Pakistan have met twice in the Asia Cup already with the Men in Blue defeating their neighbours both times. They’ll meet once again in the summit clash for the first time ever in the long history of the Asia Cup.
