India captain Suryakumar Yadav has been found guilty of a code of conduct breach by the ICC for his post-match remarks following the Asia Cup group game against Pakistan on September 14. The comments, which made indirect reference to military tensions between the two nations, were deemed to have crossed the line by match referee Richie Richardson.
According to a report in ESPNCrinfo, Suryakumar pleaded not guilty during the hearing, but his defence was rejected. While the exact sanction has not been disclosed, it is expected to involve demerit points and/or a financial penalty. The BCCI has lodged an appeal against the verdict.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had lodged an official complaint with the ICC against Yadav for expressing solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and dedicating his team’s victory to the Indian Armed Forces involved in Operation Sindoor. His comments were made after India’s Asia Cup Group A match against Pakistan on September 14.
The PCB claims Surya’s comments are “political”.
