Vaibhav Suryavanshi dismissed for 16 in India U19 vs Australia U19 Youth ODI as Charles Lachmund claims key wicket in the final match of the series.

Star India batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi fell for just 16 runs in the final Youth ODI against Australia on Friday, as his defence gave way to a delivery from Charles Lachmund. The two teams are playing a three-match Youth ODI series and India have an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Suryavanshi made a breezy half-century and captain Ayush Mhatre grabbed three wickets with his part-time off-spin as India U19 beat Australia U19 by 51 runs in the second Youth ODI in Brisbane on Wednesday.

On Friday, in the third match, India lost Mhatre in just the second over. As Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra tried to build a partnership, the former tried to go the aggressive way, managing to hit two sixes. But the delivery from Lachmund went on to hit Suryavanshi’s off-stump.

On Wednesday, Suryavanshi (70 off 68 balls) had laid the foundation for India’s charge after his fellow opener Mhatre fell for a two-ball duck.

Suryavanshi and Malhotra (70, 74b) added 117 runs for the second wicket to bring India back on track, but the dismissal of the former robbed India of the momentum.

But on Friday, Suryavanshi had to go back just in the seventh over. But this time the youngsters stayed put as Malhotra and Vedant Trivedi added 69 runs for the third wicket.

During the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, Suryavanshi debuted at 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai, bagging his place as the youngest cricketer in the tournament’s history. He scored just 19 and 12 on debut.

Suryavanshi scored two ducks in his second match against Chhattisgarh. He didn’t play any more that season and returned to the first-class fold again in October against Karnataka, but managed two single-digit scores.

Suryavanshi’s first big score in the longest format was a 41-run innings that he played against Madhya Pradesh in November.
