Harshit Rana against Sri Lanka returned to the Indian side in Asia Cup 2025. The game was a dead rubber as Sri Lanka have been knocked out of the tournament and India have qualified for the final hence Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dube who were regular starters were rested and Rana was given an opportunity alongside Arshdeep Singh. However, Rana has had a day to forget with the ball as he conceeded 54 runs from his four overs picking up one wicket. Former Indian selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth tore into the Delhi pacer.
“Harshit Rana does too many filmy gimmicks. All these filmy reactions aren’t of any use, you’ve to actually bowl well. He does all these filmy reactions in the IPL as well. This is not a good attitude, it’s just showboating. He drives after the ball is already last him. Why dive after the goal has already been scored? Aggression is different but showboating so much at a young age is why he got punished today,” Srikkanth said speaking on his YouTube channel.
“India won because of the four overs in the middle from Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy. They both bowled magically . Wrist spinners are always potential match winners, which got proven today. Sri Lanka today exposed the Indian bowling a little bit. Axar Patel can be taken to the cleaners if there is no turn,” he said.
Alongside Rana, Arshdeep Singh too looked rusty in his bowling as he too has been warming the bench in the series. Bowling coach Morne Morkel when asked if their rustiness is the reason behind their expensive spells he responded by saying: “In our environment, we are trying to move away from the excuse culture. The effort they put into the training, we expect them to go out and deliver. Sometimes, it is the lack of game time. You can bowl as much as you want in the nets, but nothing beats game time. As a team, we expect guys to deliver. It is not happening for them right now, but in the bigger picture, the team is winning. These guys are X factors and match winners on their given day.”
