Ravichandran Ashwin critiques Harshit Rana’s bowling against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, highlighting amateurish mistakes.

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has said that, having played only a few games in his international career, it is troublesome for Harshit Rana to deliver on the biggest stage and his erratic and inconsistent bowling against Sri Lanka was an ‘amateurish’ show in the international arena.

Rana, playing his second game of the eight-team Asia Cup, went for a whopping 54 runs in his four-over spell, picking up just one wicket.

In his first over, Rana gave away 12 runs, followed by 32 runs in the next two, as Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka capitalised on some wayward bowling.

During his analysis, Ashwin noted that Rana’s bowling was predictable, as it often followed a fast ball with slower deliveries.

“I just want to speak about Harshit Rana. He has played a few games. He hasn’t played a few games. It isn’t easy to play one match and then sit out. It could really be flattening for your confidence and also be a bit rusty,” Ashwin said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

“But the mistakes made by Harshit against Sri Lanka were really amateurish. I thought the game was done in the power play, but India made a stellar comeback after that,” Ashwin said.

“Harshit Rana was cranking up the speed. He hit him on the head and then he followed it up with a slower ball. Nissanka played it beautifully. Harshit Rana was just bowling slower balls after delivering a fast-paced delivery,” Ashwin added.

Needing 12 off the last over from Rana and three off the final delivery, Dasun Shanaka (22 not out off 11 balls) could manage only two as the game went into a Super Over.

The Super Over belonged to Arshdeep Singh, who gave only two runs and got two wickets in five deliveries. The target of three runs was achieved in a single ball by captain Suryakumar Yadav.
