The 13th edition of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup is set to take place from September 30 to November 2 in India and Sri Lanka.

The quadrennial showpiece has witnessed many greats of the women’s game shatter records every edition, with some long-standing ones within striking distance this time around.

From most runs and centuries in World Cup history to the highest no. of wickets, here are some records that could be broken at this year’s ICC Women’s ODI World Cup:

Most runs in World Cup history

  • Debbie Hockley (NZ)- 1501
  • Mithali Raj (IND) – 1321
  • Jan Brittin (ENG) – 1299
  • Charlotte Edwards (ENG) – 1231
  • Suzie Bates (NZ) – 1179

New Zealand great Debbie Hockley has held the record for the most runs in World Cup history since 2000. Now, another Kiwi legend, Suzie Bates, looks poised to overtake her.

The veteran opener, only 322 runs shy, will have at least seven matches in the group stage to claim the record.

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur (876 runs) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (805) are inside the top 12 for leading run-scorers and could make great strides in the list.

Most runs in a single edition

  • Alyssa Healy (AUS) – 509 runs (2022)
  • Rachael Haynes (AUS) – 497 runs (2022)
  • Debbie Hockley (NZ) – 456 runs (1997/98)
  • Lindsay Reeler (AUS) – 448 runs (1988/89)
  • Debbie Hockey (NZ) – 446 runs (1988/89)

Only one player has crossed the 500-run mark in a single World Cup edition, and Alyssa Healy, now skipper of the defending champion Australia, will hope to replicate her performance from the victorious 200 campaign.

A total of 12 players have also crossed the 400-run threshold and will be looking to utilise the batting-friendly conditions and pile on the runs.

Highest score

  • Belinda Clark (AUS) – 229* vs NED (1997)
  • Chamari Athapaththu (SL) – 178* vs AUS (2017)
  • Charlotte Edwards (ENG) – 173* vs IRE (1997)
  • Harmanpreet Kaur (India) – 171* vs AUS (2017)
  • Stafanie Taylor (WI) – 171 vs SL (2013)

The highest individual score in World Cup history is a long-standing, 28-year-old record held by Belinda Clark, who scored an unbeaten 229 against Denmark (Netherlands) back in 1997.

India’s Smriti Mandhana has been in good nick, having scored four centuries this calendar year, the joint-most in 2025.

With some quality batters across the eight participating teams, the Australian great’s knock could be in danger.

India’s Smriti Mandhana and South Africa’s Tazmin Brits already have four hundred apiece in 2025, while at least four batters have two each. They could benefit from the good batting wickets available and use the opportunities to score freely.

Most centuries

  • Nat Sciver-Brunt (ENG) – 4
  • Suzie Bates (NZ) – 4
  • Charlotte Edwards (ENG) – 4
  • Jan Brittin (ENG) – 4

Four players have scored as many centuries each at the Women’s World Cup, and two active players stand a chance to break free from the list this edition.

England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt stands a chance to surpass the record for most centuries in World Cup history.

England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt and New Zealand’s Bates are the two in contention to be the first to register a fifth hundred at the World Cup. Meanwhile, India captain Harmanpreet, who has three hundreds, could also claim the record.

Most wickets

  • Jhulan Goswami (IND) – 43
  • Lynn Fullston (AUS) – 39
  • Carole Hodges (ENG) – 37
  • Clare Taylor (ENG) – 36
  • Shabnim Ismail (SA) – 36
  • Megan Schutt (AUS) – 34
  • Anya Shrubsole (ENG) – 34

Indian stalwart Jhulan Goswami tops the list for most wickets in World Cup history. But her record is at risk, with three experienced seamers capable of overtaking her total of 43 scalps.

Australia pacer Megan Schutt, who has a total of 34 wickets, has the most World Cup wickets among active bowlers.

Australia pacer Megan Schutt has a total of 34 wickets, while South Africa all-rounder Marizanne Kapp (32 wickets) and Australia’s Ellyse Perry (31) could also claim the top spot.

Best bowling figures

  • Jackie Lord (NZ) – 6/10 (8 overs) vs IND (1982)
  • Glenys Page (NZ) – 6/20 (6.2 overs) vs T&T (1973)
  • Sophie Ecclestone (ENG) – 6/36 (8 overs) vs SA (2022)
  • Anya Shrubsole (ENG) – 6/46 (9.4 overs) vs IND (2017)
  • Jennifer Turner (NZ) – 5/5 (11.2 overs) vs NED (1993)

Only four players have managed six-wicket hauls in a single Women’s World Cup match — New Zealand spinner Jackie Lord sits stop the list with figures of six for 10 against India in 1982.

England’s Sophie Ecclestone is the only active player to pick up a six-wicket haul in the World Cup.

England’s Sophie Ecclestone is the only active player to pick up a six-wicket haul in the World Cup. But with fresh surfaces and friendly sub-continental conditions, a seven-wicket haul or even better could be up for grabs.

Most wickets in a single edition

  • Lyn Fullston (AUS) – 23 wickets (1981/82)
  • Jackie Lord (NZ) – 22 wickets (1981/82)
  • Sophie Ecclestoe (ENG) – 21 wickets (2022)
  • Neetu David (IND) – 20 wickets (2005)
  • Shubhangi Kulkarni (IND) – 20 wickets (1981/82)

Lyn Fullston’s record of 23 wickets (over 12 matches) in a single World Cup edition is a long-standing one. Only Ecclestone came close to dethroning it back in 2022.

Neetu David and Shubhangi Kulkarni are the only Indians to have reached the 20-wicket mark in a World Cup.
