India’s win in the 2025 Asia Cup final helped Gambhir become the first cricketer in the world to win both the ICC and ACC titles as a player and as a head coach.
Gautam Gambhir entered his name in the history books on Sunday, September 28, by becoming the first cricketer in the world to win the Asia Cup as well as an ICC trophy both as a player and as a head coach. As a player, Gambhir was a member of the Indian teams that won the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Asia Cup in 2010, and as the head coach of Team India, he won the ICC Champions Trophy in March 2025 and the Asia Cup on September 28.
Ravi Shastri also won an ICC trophy and the Asia Cup (twice) as a player and the Asia Cup as head coach (in 2018), but he never managed to win an ICC trophy as head coach.
