After a historic win, head coach Gautam Gambhir took to his social media handle to share an encouraging post for his boys.
India thrashed Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final, clinching a 9th title on Sunday in Dubai. After bundling the arch-rivals for 146 in 20 overs, the defending champions chased down the target with 5 wickets in hand.
Needing 10 off the last over, Tilak deposited the controversial trouble monger Haris Rauf into mid-wicket stands before Rinku Singh, getting his first hit of the tournament, sent the Indian fans into delirium with a winning boundary.
After a historic win, head coach Gautam Gambhir took to his social media handle to share an encouraging post for his boys.
“In the end, INTENT always wins,” Gambhir wrote on X.
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav, alongside Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel, dismantled Pakistan’s batting line-up, skittling them for a below-par 146 in 19.1 overs. Despite Hardik Pandya’s absence and a strong 84-run opening stand, India’s spinners dominated the back-10 overs, taking nine wickets for just 33 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah then yorked Haris Rauf and mimicked a crashing-plane gesture, a cheeky response to the pacer’s earlier controversial celebration against Indian fans.
India Refuse To Take Trophy
There was drama aplenty following India’s thrilling win in the Asia Cup final. They refused to collect the Asia Cup trophy. This unprecedented step was apparently taken because the trophy was supposed to be handed over by Mohsin Naqvi.
There was a huge standoff before the presentation ceremony got underway. Naqvi, along with other dignitaries, stood on the stage for more than an hour. The Indian team stood nearby and the Pakistani side were in the dressing room. Reportedly, the Indians were told that Naqvi would hand the trophy and they rejected it.
Later, it was learned that the trophy was not awarded to champions India at the presentation after they refused to accept it.
